Post-Lunar Festival '15

And the Lunar Festival has finally come to a close.. Though, watching a bunch of people trying to spawn Omen in the final few moments of the Holiday is a pretty amusing sight. And very loud. So many fireworks all at once.

Lunar Festival '15

The Lunar Festival for the year of 2015 has shifted out of January entirely and runs from February 16th through March 2nd this year. The Lunar Festival is an in-game Holiday event that represents the Chinese New Year.

Normally, on the actual date of the Lunar New Year, there would be firework displays set up in Stormwind City, Thunder Bluff, Booty Bay, and Moonglade. The calendar, currently, does not reveal any single date of the Lunar Festival as having a fireworks display as being part of the festivities, so we'll have to wait and see if they are going to be on the traditional display of fireworks. As the grand finale to the Lunar Festival, a fireworks display is put on display at Moonglade, with an increased number of lanterns placed around Lake Elune'ara to create parallels with the Chinese Festival of Lanterns.

With all that said, you'll know that the Lunar Festival has started because most, if not all, of the capital cities will have Chinese-style lanterns set out on display around the scene showing the start of the Holiday. Bread crumb quests will show up on your mini-map, and depending on where you log out in cities, right in your face.

The only real purpose of the bread crumb quests, of which there are only a handful, is to get you introduced to the idea of shooting off rockets and rocket clusters from the launchers located throughout the world, as well as to teach you how to use your Lunar Festival Invitation to come and go from Moonglade, where the Holiday vendors and boss are located.
  1. The Lunar Festival/The Lunar Festival: Speak with a Lunar Festival Emissary, if you're Alliance, or a Lunar Festival Herald, if you're Horde, and get some simple instructions to head to the local Lunar Festival festivity area and speak with a Lunar Festival Harbinger. You could also just go talk to a Lunar Festival Harbinger and completely disregard this quest, but it's there, so we're putting it in.
  2. Lunar Fireworks: To complete this quest, you'll need to speak with a Lunar Festival Vendor and pick up an assortment of rockets(Small Red Rocket, Small Blue Rocket, Small Green Rocket) and rocket clusters(Blue Rocket Cluster, Green Rocket Cluster, Red Rocket Cluster). Launch them off at the nearby launchers and we'll keep this train chugging along.
    • Lunar Festival Invitation: The 24 hour cooldown for this item was removed during the Cataclysm launch of the Holiday, so now you don't have to worry about coming back to pick another one up. This is how we're going to be getting to Moonglade to spend our coins and beat up the Holiday "boss."
  3. Valadar Starsong: With your Lunar Festival Invitation procured, it's time to step into the large beam of moonlight amongst the launchers and teleport to Moonglade. Once there, you're going to head into Nighthaven and speak with Valadar Starsong.
  4. Elune's Blessing: This is the final quest of the Holiday, but since it also pertains to the Holiday "boss," we're going to come back to this once we've talked about everything else. But, just to let you know, you have to take down (or watch someone take down) Omen, and stand in the beam of moonlight that spawns from his corpse to receive Elune's Blessing.
    • Elune's Lantern: The 24 hour cooldown makes this Toy less useful, but the introduction of Raid Markers, you don't need to use this or flares anymore for location markers. Remember Heigan's Dance Room? The stones from this were a saving grace.

Now that we've done a quick rundown of all of the quests involved for the Lunar Festival, it's time to get down into the nitty-gritty of this Holiday. The main idea behind the Lunar Festival is to honor the Elders of the past, which requires traveling all over the world; from the sand dunes of Tanaris, to the icy crags of Northrend, to the balmy tropics of Stranglethorn. There are no Elders on the Outlands, on Pandaria, or on Draenor.

As you go about honoring each of these Elders, you're going to receive a Coin of Ancestry, which is the primary currency for this Holiday, and a Lucky Red Envelope. 
  1. Lucky Rocket Cluster: These act the same as the normal rocket clusters that can be purchased from your vendors, but they do pack a little bit more of a punch.
    1. Lunar Fortune: When you fire off these rockets, you get a small health buff. This buff does not adjust by level, so you will always receive a buff of +250 health. Amusingly, it has an area effect cast, so anyone around the launcher will receive this mighty buff, even if they're from the other faction.
  2. Elder's Moonstone: This item creates a three minute beam of moonlight at the targeted location. As beneficial as that sounds, we only wish that you could utilize these stones to create portable Grand Moonlights to use the Lunar Festival Invitation.
There are a total of 84 Elders to locate and honor throughout the three continents. Due to phasing issues, the Elder inside of Wintergrasp might not be worth your time, but find a way in if you're shooting for the achievement.

Maybe I should have mentioned this earlier.. But are you a tailor or an engineer? You're not? Well crap, you just wasted a whole lot of time gathering all those coins for some Bind-on-Pickup recipes. But it's okay! You maybe got a Toy and a pet out of it, right? Plus there are always achievements! It's a Holiday, buck up. Done with your coin spending? Here's what you can get with just your hard-earned gold.

So earlier we brought up the Elune's Blessing quest and what it entailed for completion? We're at that point now in our little guide here. First off, make sure you've picked the quest up from Valadar Starsong back at Nighthaven in Moonglade. With it, head on down to the south-eastern portion of Lake Elune'ara.

  1. The Launching: In the south-eastern corner of Lake Elune'ara will be quite a few cluster launchers. Using all the available cluster rockets you've dealt with over the course of this Holiday, you need to launch a total of 30 rocket clusters with these launchers.
  2. The Spawning
    • Minions of Omen : These are going to start spawning early-on on your 30 cluster launch session. You can either mow them down, if you've got the group for it, or you can just ignore them. They will continue to spawn even if they are killed.
  3. The 30th
    • Omen
      • Omen - Cleave: Frontal cone that should only be soaked by the highest aggro, preferably a tank.
      • Starfall: This spell will be randomly cast on anyone at ranged. Move out of it, it can do some serious damage if you don't move fast enough.
      • If you fall during battle your battle with Omen, his health does not reset back to zero. Essentially making this a graveyard zerg fight, but it should not be necessary if there are enough people around or if you have soloing ability. Omen cannot be leashed away from the spawning point.
  4. The Afterlife: When Omen becomes nothing more than an empty husk on the ground near the shores of the lake, a small beam of light will spawn in the center of his corpse.
    • Elune's Blessing: Stepping into the light will grant you this buff, which is the requirement for the quest that started all of this.
  5. You are not required to be a part of the kill to gain access to the moonlight that spawns from his corpse. If you decide to take advantage of other people attacking Omen and sit it out, you are doing nothing more than showing how much of an ass you are by not helping with something so simple.

With the blood of an immortal demigod on the hands of yours and those like you, and after honoring a score of Elders from the past, it's time to get down to putting away the loose ends of this Holiday.

Completing all of the necessary achievements below will bestow upon you the title of 'Elder' and grant you the meta achievement: To Honor One's Elders!
  • A Coin of Ancestry/5 Coins of Ancestry/10 Coins of Ancestry/25 Coins of Ancestry/50 Coins of Ancestry : This achievement is as simple as the Holiday is itself. As you go around honoring the Elders and gathering your Coin of Ancestry from each one in turn, you are going to collect this entire set of achievements. Gathering every Coin of Ancestry is more than sufficient for the achievement, but why stop at 50 when you go all the way to 84?
  • Elders of Eastern Kingdoms : Simply honor all of the Elders located on Kalimdor. Of the 29 total Elders on the Eastern Kingdoms, 17 of them count toward this achievement.
  • Elders of Kalimdor : Simply honor all of the Elders located on Kalimdor. Of the 30 total Elders on Kalimdor, 21 of them count toward this particular achievement.
  • Elders of Northrend : Traverse the varying landscapes of the frozen northern continent of Northrend, honoring all of the available Elders. Of the 25 located there, 18 of them will count toward this tally.
  • Elders of Cataclysm : Venture forth across the forever-changed lands abused by the Shattering and locate the 9 Elders in the regions made available with the release of Deathwing.
  • Elders of the Dungeons : Seek out the 13 Elders hiding away in the various instances spread across the three continents. These Elders might require some creativity, ingenuity, or just friends. As always with instance achievements, doing this at level cap makes it significantly easier.
  • Elders of the Horde : Saunter, or tip-toe, your way through the Horde capitals and honor their very own Elders. There are 3 total Elders for this achievement.
  • Elders of the Alliance : Much like the Elders of the Horde, make your way through the Alliance capitals and honor the Elders of the Alliance. There are 3 total Elders for this achievement as well.
  • Frenzied Firecracker : Gather up some Festival Firecracker from the Lunar Festival Vendor, a total of 10. Spending big money on these achievements here. Easiest way to get this one is to set the Festival Firecracker to a hotkey and toss them out right after one another. If you miss a single cooldown, you're probably going to have to start over. Grab some extra 'crackers if you think you'll need it.
  • The Rocket's Red Glare : Have an engineer throw together some of the Red Rocket Cluster, or pick them up from a vendor. You're going to need a total of 10 -RED- clusters for this to work. If they aren't red, you aren't going to get any credit. After you've got 10 Red Rocket Cluster, find yourself a cluster launcher and let 'er rip. With 25 seconds on the timer, you should be get this achievement with time to spare.
  • Lunar Festival Finery : Valadar Starsong is the man of the hour with this achievement. You're going to have to drop 5 Coin of Ancestry on getting yourself into the festival with a pant suit or a dress of your color choice.
  • Elune's Blessing : Complete the pre-requisite quests to gain access to the final quest; Elune's Blessing. Turning in the quest is all that is necessary to complete this achievement, whether you actually put down the feral dog or just danced in the afterglow.

Darkmoon Faire (Soon)


This is an official announcement that I will be making a Darkmoon Faire guide in the near future. Darkmoon Faire just opened up this month today, but as I've never put in any time toward making this particular guide, it doesn't even have a beginning.

And with the new attractions coming in Patch 6.1, I figured I'd hold off on putting together an extensive guide for this particular event, especially since it comes around every month instead of every year.

Love Is In The Air '15

With the release of Warlords of Draenor, we are finally getting some updates to the in-game Holidays. While this isn't the first Holiday that has happened since the release of Warlords, it is the first one that is going to be covered by this blog with the new changes made to all of the holidays. (We all have to start somewhere, right?)
Love Is in The Air by Aketan

Love Is In The Air is a week-long Holiday event that is based upon the real-life holiday of Valentine's Day. The original version of this in-game Holiday event is lot different than its current incarnation, but the main idea still remains the same: Gather Love Tokens from farming up Lovely Charm Bracelet, snagging a couple Heart-Shaped Boxes, and doing the dailies.

And with that, we are going to start off with the traditional time-wasting questlines that are packaged with all holidays! (As always, links to Alliance content always come first.)
  1. Uncommon Scents/Uncommon Scents: A Junior Inspector/Junior Detective suspects foul play of the Crown Chemical Co. for their shady activities and a representative has been sent to Stormwind City and Orgrimmar to fill you in on the investigation. A Junior Detective is waiting near the initial Crown Chemical Co. camps to point you toward Inspector Snip Snagglebolt/Detective Snap Snagglebolt.
  2. Something Stinks/Something Stinks: Your respective Snagglebolt will hand you a Snagglebolt's Air Analyzer to run around town and use on six (6) guards that are covered in purple fumes.
  3. Pilfering Perfume/Pilfering Perfume: Snagglebolt wants supplies. The Crown Chemical Co. stockpile for both factions are just outside the main gates of Stormwind and Orgrimmar and to the left. You will receive a goblin disguise (Snagglebolt's Cloaking Device) to cover your tracks so you can get Crown Chemical Co. Supplies before they notice you're not part of the company. While disguised, you will be unable to mount or transform, you are only able to run there in less than two (2) minutes. Return to your Snagglebolt to move on to the next step of the investigation.
  4. Fireworks At The Gilded Rose/Snivel's Sweetheart: The Crown Chemical Co. Supplies contained chemical-filled rockets that Snagglebolt recognizes the design as being one created by Snivel Rustrocket. To locate his whereabouts, you're sent to his "girlfriend" for more information. Alliance players are sent to the Gilded Rose to speak with Marion Sutton, while Horde players are sent down into the Drag to talk to Roka at Gotri's Traveling Goods.
  5. Hot On The Trail/Hot On The Trail: Snivel is apparently a liar. The annoyed ladies send you on a chase around either city to try and locate Snivel. Stop in at the bank, the auction house, and the barber shop of Stormwind or Orgrimmar to catch him fleeing the scene at each turn. Return to the ladies to discover that they think Snivel is trying to run out on them to the South Seas!
  6. A Friendly Chat.../A Friendly Chat...: Alliance players need to head straight to the docks and catch Snivel waiting for his boat. Horde players need to head to the eastern zeppelin tower in town. Once you've caught up to Snivel, he'll pass over Snivel's Ledger,which Snagglebolt wants to look at for his investigation. With the information within, he decides that it's time to take on the big boys.
While you just completed the holiday questline, you probably also noticed during your time spent in your capital city of choice, that there were some daily quests that you could also be doing. Aside from the farming, these daily quests are the only other way of receiving the holiday currency of Love Tokens. You're going to need more than a few for your first rodeo.

Find your friendly, neighborhood Public Relations Agent and be prepared to feel like one of those perfume ladies at the mall. While performing the three following dailies, if at any point you attempt to use one of the items on a target that has the debuff Sample Satisfaction, you will not receive credit for the item use. Each of these dailies also rewards 5 Love Tokens. 
Also, speak with Inspector Snip Snagglebolt/Detective Snap Snagglebolt for another style of daily. The following quests are determined based upon your current level and the bracket that corresponds with that particular level. Each quest does require a bit of travel, so be prepared to go somewhere "exotic" to kill these Crown Chemical Co. employees and destroy their wagons with Snagglebolt's Khorium Bombs. As with the sampler dailies, you will be rewarded with 5 Love Tokens and a sum of gold. There is NOT a new quest for the level bracket of 91+, so you will still be heading to Uldum at level 100.
There is one more set of dailies that we need to cover before we talk about the Apothecary Trio boss fight and the holiday goodies that you can purchase during this event. Before we get into those dailies though, we need to discuss the farming aspect of this event. First off, you're going to need to speak with Kwee Q. Peddlefeet. There is a clone of this NPC standing at various locations in each capital city. 
  • Peddlefeet. Outside of the Trade District Bank in Stormwind
  • Peddlefeet. Between Auction House and Inn in Valley of Strength in Orgrimmar.
  • Peddlefeet. Marble Island South of the Bank in Darnassus.
  • Peddlefeet. Near the Auction House in the Bazaar of Silvermoon City.
  • Peddlefeet. Commons Area near the Bank in Ironforge.
  • Peddlefeet. Center Totem Pole on Lower Rise in Thunder Bluff.
  • Peddlefeet. Outside Eastern Exit of Exodar.
  • Peddlefeet. Throne Room of the Ruins of Lordaeron in Undercity.
Kwee will give you a Lovely Charm Collector's Kit that needs to remain in your inventory for you to be able to collect Lovely Charms off of level appropriate mobs to create Lovely Charm Bracelets with every ten (10) Lovely Charms. Here's a small list of some farming locations to try and maximize charm gains:
As you create the Lovely Charm Bracelets, you have two options. You can turn a single Lovely Charm Bracelet into the Kwee at each respective city for the dailies below (and buff card reward!), or you can save the Lovely Charm Bracelets up to sell them on the Auction House, or a trade in at the holiday vendor for Love Tokens at a 1:1 rate. You also have the opportunity to wear them on lower level twinks or bank toons.
Ready to find out who's actually behind this diabolical plot and was hiring Snivel Rustrocket to pump the not-so-innocent "love potion" into his rockets? Apothecary Hummel, Apothecary Baxter, and Apothecary Frye are located inside a special instanced version of Shadowfang Keep. Before you we go any further, please note that you need to be level 100 to even access this boss. Blizzard has confirmed that all Holiday event bosses will be max level content only. You can queue through the LFD UI by selecting the Crown Chemical Co. in the drop-down menu, or you can speak with any Steamwheedle Shyster to be queued up as well. Unlike previous years, you will spawn in directly on the stairs leading down to the courtyard. All three must be defeated before Hummel's corpse can be looted.
  1. The Monologue: After Apothecary Hummel's little monologue, the fight will start. For the first eight seconds of the encounter, you will only be dealing with Hummel alone.
    • Apothecary Hummel
      • Alluring Perfume: This is a constant aura around Hummel for anyone in melee range. This can be easily negated by using the Perfume Neutralizer available on the table next to where the fight takes place.
      • Alluring Perfume Spray: This is Hummel's main attack and it is a melee-range frontal-cone attack that is aimed at his highest threat target, try and aim it away from the group. Or anyone that isn't wearing the correct neutralizer.
      • Chain Reaction: Hummel will spawn a small alchemy table and after 3 seconds, it will explode and damage anyone near it.
  2. The Next Eight Seconds: After eight seconds of dealing with Hummel, he demands that Baxter assist him in trying to kill you. He, of courses, listens.
    • Apothecary Baxter
      • Irresistible Cologne: Much like Hummel's Perfume aura, Baxter has a constant melee range aura as well. Also like Hummel's, this can be easily negated by utilizing the Cologne Neutralizer on the same table as the Perfume Neutralizer. Only one can be active at a time.
      • Irresistible Cologne Spray: This is Baxter's main attack and it is a melee-range frontal-cone attack that is aimed at his highest threat target, try and aim it away from the group. Or anyone that isn't wearing the correct neutralizer.
      • Chain Reaction: Just like Hummel, he will spawn a small alchemy table that will explode after 3 seconds, damaging everyone in the immediate vicinity.
  3. Again With the Eight Seconds?: After dealing with those two for eight more seconds, Hummel yells at Apothecary Frye to quit dilly-dallying and get to work on killing us. I'm not entirely sure if he listens or not.
    • Apothecary Frye
      • Lingering Fumes: The most annoying part of this entire fight is Frye's inability to be controlled. He has no aggro table and he is constantly throwing out either vials of perfume or cologne that burst into damaging clouds of either. The neutralizers only work on one or the other type, so you're going to be constantly taking damage once Frye enters the fight. The only good part? He can be stunned. Rotate them.
      • Throw Perfume: Frye will thrown out a vial of perfume that will burst into a cloud on the ground, try not to stand in it if you don't have the Perfume Neutralizer.
      • Throw Cologne: Frye will thrown out a vial of cologne that will burst into a cloud on the ground, try not to stand in it if you don't have the Cologne Neutralizer.
  4. More Apothecaries?!
    • Crazed Apothecary: These are adds during the fight and should be consistently spawning throughout the entire fight. Due to how short the fight can be though, there have been reports of not a single one of these adds spawning at all. Count your blessings, I guess.
      • Unstable Reaction: If one does happen to spawn during your encounter, it is going to run around aimlessly for a bit and then explode, dealing quite a bit of damage to anyone in the immediate area. They take after Frye and have no aggro table. Avoid at all costs to limit damage.
  5. Heart-Shaped Box - Only available on your first kill per day.
    • x5-10 Love Token
    • Forever-Lovely Rose: A very simple headpiece involving a rose. For all female toons, it tucks the rose behind an ear. For all male toons, it's placed within the teeth, like a tango dancer.
    • Toxic Wasteling: Teaches the Toxic Wasteling battle pet. It still consumes critters and grows larger as it does so.
    • Vile Fumigator's Mask: A gas-mask headpiece with an attached fumigation backpack. The on-use effect is still comically useless.
    • The Heartbreaker: An interesting item originally built to explode chest cavities. Instead, you simply burst into tears. This item was turned into a Toy with the release of the Toy Box.
    • Big Love Rocket: Big Love Rocket. Do I really have to say it?
  6. Hummel's Corpse (Loot Phase)
After all that questing, farming, and boss-killing is finished, you're wondering what to do with all those (or lack there-of) Love Tokens.

And now that you've captured Snivel, busted the Apothecary Trio, crushed their crowns all over the world, it's time to take a moment to take a second and make sure that you've finished all of your achievements.

Completing all of the necessary achievements below will bestow upon you the title of 'the Love Fool' and grant you the meta achievement: Fool For Love!

Blog (Mostly Toy Box Post) Status

After starting to work on putting together a fully compiled list of toys and how to retrieve them in-game, I made a realization part way through that particular post's development.. It's going to be HUGE.

So I'm chopping it into parts, alphabetized parts, to help with the post size. Once all of the parts are finished separately, I will compile them back together into a single post again so that they'll be easier to navigate on a larger scale.

I figure it'd be better for me to push them out as I finish them off by section instead of waiting for a huge post to be finished off instead. Luckily for you, it won't be much longer before that entire post is finished, but I was getting fed up with the time it was taking.

Also, Love is in the Air starts next week, so that UPDATED guide will be pushed on day one so that you can get around to get all of your fancy new toys, trinkets, and maybe a pink rocket with zebra plush. Who knows?
